2010 Relays For Life

Around The Region — kbureta4375 @ 12:31 pm

Hello Illinois Jaycees,

The 2010 Relay For Life program is in full swing! Register your team today and start your fundraising efforts!

Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature activity. It offers everyone in a community an opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer. Teams of people camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Relays are an overnight event, up to 24 hours in length.

The United States Junior Chamber is a national partner of the Relay for Life program and each chapter is encouraged to participate in their local Relay.

To register your team and show your Jaycee Pride as a Non Corporate Partner with the American Cancer Society, it is very easy to get started:

• Visit the US Jaycees Relay for Life Page: http://main. acsevents. org/site/ TR?company_ id=77985&pg=national_ company
• Click on Find a Relay, and search by zip code or City and State to find the RFL that your team wishes to participate in.
• Once you have found your event, click on the blue “event website” link
• Select “Sign Up”
• Select “Start a Team”
• Enter your Team Name. Please Use your Chapter Name and two letter state code in your team name (Example “Your City, State Jaycees”)
• Next, VERY IMPORTANT STEP, Click the Team/Company Organization Drop down box, scroll down and select JAYCEES
• Continue through the registration process….and save. In order for your team to show immediately on the USJC/RFL website, please make a minimum of a $10.00 donation. (Even though your team is registered it will not show online until your first online donation is received)
• Please make a print screen of your registration confirmation, for future reference if needed.

Once you’ve registered, please contact me with the date of your Relay so I can add your event to the State calendar!

Please contact me at nationalprograms@ iljaycees. org or 773.814.4806 if you have any questions.

Birdies for Charity

State Program — kbureta4375 @ 12:29 pm

The BFC program can be a big money-making project for the Illinois Jaycees and local chapters. There is NO RISK to this project. There are no out-of-pocket expenses. Whatever amount of money collected in pledges and donations will be the NET amount received. All administrative and promotional costs of the program will be paid by John Deere Health. The John Deere Foundation handles the collection of money. Individuals making pledges are eligible to win over 500 prizes.

The John Deere Classic Foundation and John Deere Health Foundation sponsor Birdies for Charity in association with the John Deere Classic PGA golf tournament held at Deere Run Golf Course in Silvis, Illinois on July 5-11, 2010. The objective of BFC is to obtain pledges of one cent or more for every birdie made during the tournament.

Based on 2,000 birdies being recorded, each one-cent pledge will earn $20. The Illinois Jaycees and the local chapter soliciting the pledge each earn $10. Fifty cents worth of pledges will earn a local chapter approximately $500. How easy can that be to raise money for your chapter—and you don’t have to collect the money?

The following POC points have been established for the 2010 Birdies for Charity project:

250 points – .01 – .20 cents worth of pledges collected
500 points – .21 – .40 cents worth of pledges collected
750 points – .41 – .60 cents worth of pledges collected
1000 points – over .61 cents worth of pledges collected

Further information can be found on the Illinois Jaycee website. Click on the Birdies for Charity logo on the home page and learn everything about this project. Pledges can be solicited until July 1, 2010.

Since participating organizations must be a registered 501[c]3 organization, the Illinois Jaycee Charitable Foundation is sponsoring and coordinating this project on behalf of the Illinois Jaycees.

Interested chapters should contact project chairman Tony Symoniak (630-710-1065) or via email jaycees69@msn.com to request further information or to request a start-up kit and pledge forms.

March Madness Month

State Program — kbureta4375 @ 5:24 pm

Hello Illinois Jaycees!

Its March Madness month and President Kathy has challenged you to show people who the Jaycees are and what great things we do!

The Illinois Jaycees are competing against the other Mid-American States to see who the best in the “league” is. Here’s your chance to not only grow your membership base, but to also help a fabulous cause. We’re raising money for the Nothing But Nets Campaign throughout the month of March.

Nothing But Nets is a global, grassroots campaign to raise awareness and funding to combat malaria, one of the largest killers of children in Africa. With a $10 contribution, Nothing But Nets provides you the opportunity to join the global fight against malaria by sending a net and saving a life.

I’m requesting that each of you join the Illinois Jaycees Nothing But Nets Team! Instructions are attached.

I have a couple personal challenges that I’ll throw out since I’m extremely excited about this fabulous organization!

Anyone with a March Birthday! The Birthday boy or girl who raises the most money, I will personally bake a dessert of your choice and hand deliver to one of your events in April. Don’t worry, I bake very well!

The chapter that raises the most money throughout the month of March, I will attend your meeting or event in Blackhawks attire. For those of you who don’t know me…I’m a HUGE Detroit Red Wings fan, so this is very painful for me!!!

Here’s a couple additional challenge suggestions to pose to your chapter:

Carry around an “Anti-Malaria” shaker can and collect spare change at your office, events, wherever you go, ask for spare change!

Ask your local businesses to keep a jar at their registers
Hold a free throw shooting contest at a local gym and take pledges either flat dollar or per basket made
Hold a 50/50 raffle
Shave your head if you raise $250
Donate $10 on behalf of anyone who’s willing to eat a live goldfish
Take a pie to the face if your chapter raises $250

As a reminder, chapters will be accruing points throughout the month and one way to accrue points is to collect money for the Nothing But Nets Campaign.

Membership Drive Incentive Program

1 pt for every $10 raised
2 pt for every membership renewal
3 pt for each new member add
